I Love Yoo

Never thought I would spark an interest in Webtoon.

Guess what, I was never a fan of manga/manhwa/any comics. Miiko was the only comicbook I could read till finish. I've tried to read Japanese one like Eye Shield 21, Webtoon one like My Pre Wedding, even western one like DeadpoolXSpider-Man, but I just really couldn't read them thoroughly.

A couple weeks ago I saw a LINE advertisement on Instastory about a Webtoon called The Secret of Angel, I found it interesting and long story short I began reading it. Because I was tired of waiting every week to read the next chapter, I tried reading I am Gangnam Beauty, or you can say I binge-read it till finish for only 2 days. Those two Webtoons were the only manhwa that really caught my interest, till I found another one called I Love Yoo by Quimchee.

I Love Yoo. WOW. I have no idea at first why I feel so emotionally attached to this comics. Right now it has 65 episodes and still update a new one every Friday. I Love Yoo is a story about a social-careless girl named Shin Ae who happened to meet this two brothers named Kousuke and Yeong Gi. This comic hasn't even touched 100s episodes so I believe many backstories and twists yet to come. Who knows, maybe the last episode will be released in 2020 like typical long drama Webtoons.

Well, after taking time to think, I believe these are some reasons I enjoy this Webtoon so much:

1. The main characters. Shin Ae isn't a whinny girl, despite all the burden she's holding. She's not the girl who's directly having/being a crush of the male character. Then we got Kousuke, the cool serious stiff guy who actually has a soft spot. The last but my favorite is Yeong Gi, younger brother of Kousuke who's dorky funny happy friendly guy but suffering inside. Their characters were seriously written well, though I'm still waiting for more plot and characters development. Oh also, Shin Ae and Yeong Gi are the same age as me HEHE.

2. The brothers relationship. I've read similar personifications in a Wattpad called Origamiara, but Kousuke and Yeong Gi one is much more complex and left me thinking 'What on earth is going on with them?!' Trust me, I Love Yoo isn't just a romance story.

3. The drawings. On the second place after The Secret of Angel, I Love Yoo is one of the only Webtoons with such good drawings that didn't make my head dizzy to read it. I can also feel what the characters feel by looking at their expression. No wonder I was tearing up so bad after seeing my cinnamonroll Yeong Gi with his painful smile. :(

4. The language. FYI, this Webtoon is originally written in English. It has Korean manhwa style, but the language isn't a translation. This makes me fully understand the story and every dialogues, puns, and jokes.

5. The music. Yup, the author put background music in some chapters that successfully built touchier atmosphere to the story. It was usually in the form of classical piano or something, and the music was placed so well it always hit me right in the feels.

6. The ships. Though I'm obviously #TeamYeongGi, gotta be honest that the story makes anyone be uncertain who to ship with who. Both Kousuke and Yeong Gi treated Shin Ae lovingly in their own unique ways. Sometimes Kousuke ship is sailing, sometimes Yeong Gi ship is shining bright. Then some readers be like shipping Shin Ae with happiness, no matter who the guy is. I really hope Shin Ae will end up with Yeong Gi, but my gut feeling said that Kousuke will be the endgame. Duh.

At last, I think this Webtoon is suitable for anyone who seek something heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time.

-Ayaszki,
written in a thoughtful Friday night.
